Why We Called Our Chalet
19 Evening Star
There are two reasons we chose the name Evening Star for our little chalet on the south coast of the Isle of Wight.
The first is the setting.
As daylight fades over the English Channel, the sky above the chalet takes on an inky blue hue. There is very little light pollution here, so on a clear evening the first stars begin to appear overhead.
And then there are those particularly special nights when the moon is full. From the deck, you can see the moonlight stretching across the sea, creating a beautiful silver path over the water. It is the kind of view that makes you stop for a while and simply take it in.
The second reason is a little more personal.
Evening Star is also the name of a favourite album of ours by British musicians Robert Fripp and Brian Eno, released in 1975. The album is known for its distinctive ambient soundscapes, with the title track Evening Star capturing a wonderfully serene feeling of stillness and transition as dusk gives way to night.
For us, the name seemed to capture something about this place — that peaceful moment when the day begins to soften into evening, the light changes, and everything becomes a little quieter.
And perhaps that’s what we hope you experience when you stay here.
A slower pace.
A little time to look out to sea.
The changing light across the water.
And an evening beneath an island sky.
