Ferry fares can vary throughout the year, with prices often a little higher during school holidays and at the more popular crossing times. The fare will depend on the dates and sailing time you choose.

As ferry prices work on a live system, we find it’s usually worth booking as early as you can, as this gives you the best chance of finding a good fare and the crossing time that suits you best.

There are six main crossings to and from the Island: 

Car and Passenger Ferries: 

Wightlink: Portsmouth to Fishbourne - 45 minute crossing time. 
Wightlink: Lymington to Yarmouth - 40 minute crossing time. 

Red Funnel: Southampton to East Cowes - 55 minute crossing time.

Foot Passenger Ferries: 

Wightlink: Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier - 22 minutes

Hovertravel: Southsea to Ryde Esplanade - 10 minutes 

Red Jet (Red Funnel): Southampton to West Cowes - 25 minutes

The Portsmouth Harbour crossing is next to a railway station on both sides of the water. The other two have connecting buses to the nearest train station on the mainland. 

* The Isle of Wight is part of the UK so you do not need to show a passport and we continue the use of the British pound.
